I’m taking on the Groundwork Challenge!

1 in 5 Australian mammals are on the endangered species list.

That’s why from 16 November until 16 December, I’m digging deep for the land I love.

I’ve committed to running every day to protect our native species and their precious habitats. My plan is to run 3km a day and finish with a 10km run from the Yourka front gate to the Sunday Creek billabongs. In one month I will cover the same distance that Mum and Dad do when they search the creeklines for siam weed each Winter.

Please support me and help protect the land we all call home by making a tax deductible donation to Bush Heritage Australia.

Together, we can help restore the bush and protect our native species.

Koalas... cute but creepy

Thursday 15th Oct

It’s exactly one month until I start my Groundwork Challenge, running 3kms every day and then finishing with a long distance run of 10kms from the Yourka front gate to the Sunday Creek Billabongs. Thank you so much to the people who have sponsored me already. Last week I reached my first milestone of raising $250 for conservation work and I received a message to say that I had a won a pair of koala socks. That same day Dad made his first confirmed sighting of a koala on the reserve. Is that a spooky coincidence or what? Speaking of spooky, listen to this clip of the noise that koalas make when they're declaring their territory.

I’m glad it wasn’t me sitting in the dark and hearing that sound!

It's Stripy season!

Thursday 8th Oct

As part of my Groundwork Challenge I thought that I could share some interesting facts and photos about the wildlife at Yourka Reserve.

This time of year at Yourka it gets pretty dry and dusty but it is still one of my favourite seasons because it is when we get to see loads of little “stripys” cruising around the reserve with their Dads. Emu chicks look so adorable with stripy patterns on their feathers and long, gangly legs. Did you know that adult emus can ran as fast as 50km an hour? That’s even faster than Usain Bolt!

This funny photo was taken by one of the Yourka Reserve remote cameras that we downloaded on the weekend. It is my inspiration for the Bush Heritage Groundwork Challenge. I want to fly like an emu!
