I’m taking on the Groundwork Challenge!
1 in 5 Australian mammals are on the endangered species list.
That’s why from 16 November until 16 December, I’m digging deep for the land I love.
I’ve committed to running/walking/rolling every day to protect our native species and their precious habitats.
Please support me and help protect the land we all call home by making a tax deductible donation to Bush Heritage Australia.
Together, we can help restore the bush and protect our native species.

My lesson for this week: always aim high!
Thursday 19th Nov Well, one thing I have learned this week is never sets your sights too low. I had originally set a modest fund-raising target of $250 as I've not done something like this before and I honestly didn't think I'd have many sponsors. But, I have been surprised and delighted by the lovely people in my life, current and past (& those known to me only via Facebook), who have given so generously to this cause. Thanks everyone for recognising this as an important cause. You have rallied, so I will, too and see if I can't also achieve a bigger walking goal beyond 100 kms. Thanks for inspiring me, folks! ShareSkeksi, the Barking owl - my mascot
Sunday 15th Nov You will notice that I have a Barking owl as my mascot for this Groundwork challenge. Skeksi, one of our Leigh Valley Hawk & Owl Sanctuary residents, is the perfect representation of our native fauna whose population has been compromised by habitat destruction. Barking owls need tree hollows to breed and raise their young; tree hollows only develop in 100 + year old trees, but we all know that our old growth forests are regularly under siege in Australia. The most recent Victorian Barking owl population count that I'm aware of (dating back to the year 2000) identified only 50 pairs left in the wild. This is why I'm supporting Bush Heritage as they understand the importance of habitat preservation and are engaged in practical activities that try to ensure our wildlife have a sustainable future.
